Super Mario Bros. 3D: Glitches and Logo Revealed

Hi all, we’re back, and we’ve got some things to notice.
First of all, Glitches!
These are the following Glitches we try to fix right now:
- White bricks on phones.
- Animations (still).
- Mario goes off-road.
- Better music looping.
- Flagpole (still).
- God Mode.

See the following video for more information.

More to notice, we can now happily announce the new Logo of Super Mario Bros. 3D:

SMB3D problems

Right, first off, we’re having some trouble with graphics rendering on Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). While Gingerbread (Android 2.3) did a great job on anything, ICS seems to have hard times rendering some textures, and model setup. It’s either that, or it’s just because we have replaced some models.

That’s right, we have replaced lots of models, as seen in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Now the Goomba’s really look like Goomba’s, not just some dual-face unions, and the pipes now look like pipes, not like a cheap cylinder with some kind of weed on it. We have also replaced the bricks, but that didn’t turn out to be great. Look at the screenshots below, one of them is an Android-powered phone, running on Ice Cream Sandwich and a Snapdragon processor (Google Nexus One), and one of them is an Android-powered tablet, running on Ice Cream Sandwich and a Tegra 3 processor (Asus Transformer Prime).

If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to comment and help us out. Remember the fact we’re developing this game on Unity 3.4.0f5, which is pretty old, though.

2 new games in development

We’ve got 2 new games in development, one being for PC and Mac, and one being for Android.
We can’t tell you anything about our PC and Mac game yet, it’s way to early, and it’ll be huge, I promise!

The Android game is a Super Mario Bros. game with HD (?) graphics.
However, the game is in very early stages, with no enemies yet, non-working Flag Pole, no respawns and/or dies, and Mario looks like a simple tampon. (O.O”)
In other words, the only thing we currently have, is a playable level, filled with glitches, nothing more, nothing less.
The game is called “Super Mario Bros. 3D”, by the way.

Damn! Windows support failed! Mac version still set for release soon! – UPDATE

As you can read, the Windows version failed.
The reason is, no time left; freeze date is today, and it’s now frozen as the Final Release.
Plus, the Mac version are going to select reviewers later on, so don’t worry.
Bad reviews are expected, but keep in mind this is our very first game in development.
Next games will no longer be rushed out.

Time @tack will be released on December 23rd, 2011 to the public.

Update
Good News: The Windows version works now!
So it’ll be released for both Windows and Mac!

Twitter Failed, and there’s only 1 option left

As the title already explained, Twitter Integration failed, and so does the High Score + Twitter thing.
However, we don’t want to delay this project, and we don’t even want to quit it at all.
We had 2 options left:
Option 1: Delay the project and don’t give up on Twitter.
Option 2: Just finalize the project, but in return, add more tracks.
But we thought, if people have YouTube, who needs Twitter?
And why would we delay a game and hopelessly try to continue on a function which won’t work anyway.
Also, this is our very first project, and there’s always a first time to start with.
So in this fact, we’ve chosen for Option 2, and we’ll add more tracks for you to enjoy.

Remember, we’ll release Time @tack for free on February 10th, 2012, for Mac OS X and Windows.
Also, we did say it’ll be available in the Apple App Store and Windows Store, right?
Forget about that too!
We’ll release the game on MediaFire, which is officially available at YamiHoshi.nl and DSHack.org.

Expected Courses:
1. Unity City
2. Forest Island
3. City Highway
4. Winter Road
5. InnerCity
6. Dry Riverbed

The last 2 are yet to be inserted, but we hope you’ll have enough fun with these (Psssst, we’ll leave some bugs in, just for more enjoyment).

Not much activity lately: Busy busy busy!

Sorry for not posting so much lately, we had a pretty busy Calendar at our Journalist Team, and we got a couple of things changed at DSHack.org.
Ah well, I hope we’ve finished our work at DSHack.org, although it still needs 1 more thing to be accomplished.
The Journalist Team at YamiHoshi.nl is a rolling issue, so we’ll remain busy on that as well.
However, this is the Development Team of YamiHoshi.nl, so let’s discuss about our Game Development for now.

We’re currently trying to get the the finish scene working smoother, with time being calculated and such, and we’re working on the Laps being counted more properly.
We’ve discovered a bug in our Prototype, which was meant to be a Demo at a later point, which allows you to take the Checkpoints and Laps with you to the next level.
Meaning that, you can do one Lap on one stage, quit at soon as Lap 2 starts, go to another stage, ride one Lap over there, and it’s counted as 2 Laps passed.
We’ve got the time, so we don’t have any plans on a delay.

As soon as all of these problems are fixed, we’ll be working on the Twitter API, so you can optionally send your time to Twitter, but we don’t expect this to take that long, though.
That’s why we decided to use the name “Time @tack”: This means it’s purely Time Trials, while the “@” mark also hints on Twitter integration.

So, we currently have 4 Tracks, and we can add at least 3 to 4 more.
We already have a true rally track, a coast one, one on a highway, and one on a snowy village.
We’re planning to use a dessert-like track, so how do you think about that?
Are the current tracks enough?
Do you want to have more installed?
How many more do you want to have installed?
What themes do you want to have more?
Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

In addition to that, we’re also looking for a nice side project, which is more casual, and more colourful.
Any ideas?
Do you have a nice idea that has never seen before?
We’ll take your challenge!
Send your idea to contact AT yamihoshi DOT nl, and we’ll make it.
The best idea will be taken in development, and you’ll get the game at least 1 week before its official release, for free.

Yeah, all of our games need to be for free, for now.
It’s because we just want to entertain people for as long as we keep developing for PC and Mac only.

Hackyami got a final name; more specific release date included

We’d like to announce a name change to Hackyami: Time @tack!
Time @tack (pronounced as “Time Attack”) will be available for free on February 2012, exclusively in the Mac App Store and Windows Store*.

Time @tack is a social Time Trials game, of which your best times can be shared to Twitter.
Beat your friend’s records, and show who’s the best on long circuits, in a range from the hottest deserts of Dry Riverbed to the longest highways of City Highway.
Get your best times on Twitter in 1 single click.

This is the very first time a non-profit group of journalists are going to create a very own video game, which makes this project a lot more interesting.
For more information about this game, go to our Dev Blog dev.yamihoshi.nl, or get to YamiHoshi.nl directly.

Time @tack is going to be released for free on February 2012, exclusively for Mac and PC.

* Windows Store version is available after the launch of the Windows 8 Operating System.

Demo’s delayed, and this is why

We need to delay a playable Demo, which was set to release at the end of this week.
We’re delaying it, because we think it’s not Demo-worthy yet.
At the HUD-end, there would be no huge changed until the free Demo is released.
However, we would like to give the Menu a huge makeover first.
When that’s done, we’ll put more fitting music in it, that don’t use any existing ones.
After that, we’ll take measure on the after race scenes.
We need to admit, it looks way to sad to release a Demo right now, and we need to make it look more like the games look like today, then we can consider releasing a free Demo which everyone will enjoy.

Hackyami Screenshots from the Demo

Good news to anyone!
We’re set to release a free demo for Mac and PC soon, which allows you to drive through 3 exclusive, and less exclusive, tracks.
Beware that the Demo version as well is the Beta version, and thus is not counted as a full release.
Also, loads of things could and will change, as it gets closer to the final release in 2012, for Intel Mac’s and 64-bit versions of Windows 8*.

* Windows 8 release launches after the official Windows 8 release, and the Windows Store.
However, the demo version runs on Windows 7 and Windows Vista too.
